The Consumer Syndrome; its Effect on Your Career & Business

"If you worship at the throne of the voices of the consumer, you will only get incremental advances" .
by Joseph Morone.

Within the past one and half century, the world has experienced diverse forms of scarcity. Worthy of mention is the scarcity of "CONDUIT" (for conveying info), then electronic wires were connected from coast to coast. At the end of the era, the scarcity of content followed (info & program to fill the conduit).
At the moment, content is hyper abundant and we drown in information, yet another form of scarcity is swiftly evolving: "CONTEST", giving meaning to information.
Despite the myriad hubs of available information, most people have been reduced to mere lemmings, doomed conformist, traditionalist, copycats or "yes men" driven by the CONSUMER SYNDROME.
Have you noticed that;
·        it is now increasingly difficult to distinguish the different numerous brands of cars? Toyota, Honda, Mercedes . . . all have similar products.
·        the trend in the Nigerian music industry makes everyone sound alike and gives an impression that beats and tunes are scarce.
·        the Telecoms industry is typified by excessive imitation,  and the list goes on.
Most Manufacturers, producers, Corporate and individual business owners especially within this part of the world, now design and develop their products / services majorly on the consumers need, but the truth is the world is now more dynamic than ever and characterized by so much change hence it is not in the place of the consumer to determine the next invention or anticipate the next big thing.
Whilst we were celebrating VHS players, VCD players evolved and then MP3's, DVD,s, IPods, desktops, Laptops, I pads, I phones, smart phones .. . . . . . . it is your responsibility to fashion out the next big thing in your field.
Specifically to those in the music industry, it is not in the place of your Fans (consumers) to determine your beat, lyrics or tunes. It is only an illusion and a lie that we have told ourselves that “this style of beat, tunes, videos or lyrics is the only thing promoters will promote or its the only way to sell your creative work”.
Microsoft developed the one of the world's most user friendly operating systems & other Apps before the consumer could even think of it and has since then tweaked every version of their product from windows 95, 98, windows 2000, XP, windows 7, vista ......
This is what it takes to be a MUSIC LEGEND, a producer, a MANUFACTURER or to be at the top of your career. Companies, business or individuals in the industry must be idea led and consumer informed.
